I’m not going to mince words; I think the wedding industry is like a drug. Once you get a taste, you’re hooked and it becomes a powerful force in your life. At least that was the case with me. At the risk of sounding completely cheesy, I fell head-over-heels in love. As I continued my work in digital marketing for the wedding industry, I had a chance to garner loads of feedback from wedding professionals and brides about what they liked and didn’t like about current wedding “marketing”. I consistently heard the following: Wedding pros said, “It’s hard to find engaged couples that appreciate my work,” and engaged couples told me – “It’s hard to find venues/wedding pros that fit my needs (budget, taste, availability). There are so many different avenues, where do I even start?” I wanted to find a better way and Yibe, or Your Independent Bridal Expert, was born.
As I was building out Yibe conceptually, I knew that I wanted to provide reasonable and accessible month-of wedding coordinating for couples; that I can be working on a wedding all day (in some cases I’ve worked close to fifteen hours straight) with little to eat and maybe 30 minutes to sit, yet feel energized and enthused every last minute. I’ve found that I love creating order and beauty from bits and pieces of virtual chaos.
It is with this goal of making wedding planning less chaotic for engaged couples that the concierge concept really came to life. How could I make the process simpler and more luxurious for those to-be married? I’d found, during extensive work-related travel, that the concierge at a hotel was often a wealth of information. Need a location for a romantic dinner for two? They’ll find the right place for you and make the reservations. Broke the heel on your shoe and need a new pair? They can find the ones you need and bring them to your room. I wanted to create that level of service for engaged couples and their families.
Sans the exchange of money (i.e. for free) and regardless of whether a client has booked my wedding coordination service, I’ll provide referrals to a broad range of pre-screened weddings pros who fit into a couple’s style and price range and who are available on their wedding date. The couple then has the opportunity to meet with the wedding pros and choose their perfect match.
As my wedding season officially starts this weekend, I look forward to all the exciting experiences the coming year brings!
